Cool Congregations News

10 February 2016

From the OK-IPL Cool Congregations Committee (Linda Pope, Pat Hoerth, Ted Metzler)

Thanks to generous funding assistance from our Advisory Board member, Marvin Chiles, from the Mayflower Congregational UCC in Oklahoma City, and from the national IPL headquarters, we were able to employ three Oklahoma City University students at various times during 2014, and, with this additional help from the students, we now can report that

most of them having received the Carbon Footprint Calculator for households (with instructions for its use) via workshops or through phone, email, and website media involving our staff.

but you believe that it would like to join these other Oklahoma religious communities in their practice of good environmental stewardship,

Cool Congregations is an ongoing activity of the Oklahoma Interfaith Power and Light (OK-IPL) program, which is hosted at Oklahoma City University.

The mission of Cool Congregations is to inspire and educate people to be faithful stewards of creation by responding to climate change through energy conservation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy.

Representatives from hundreds of Oklahoma religious groups already have attended our workshops and/or received a software tool that helps households calculate their “carbon footprint.”

Carbon footprints measure emissions into the atmosphere of greenhouse gases that contribute to global climate change.

If you believe that your Oklahoma religious community, and/or some households within it, would like to participate in Cool Congregations or would like more information about it,

PLEASE CONTACT Dr. Ted Metzler, tmetzler@okcu.edu
